Introducing Billie Coop
Our Journey Begins
Hi, I'm Steve, and this is Billie Coop. We incorporated in BC in 2025, and honestly? The first few months were a little… slow. I was hacking on projects and doing some contracting, and the others have been tied up with their own work. But that's okay — we're just getting started.
We started Billie Coop because we wanted to try something different: a worker-owned software cooperative. Why? Because we believe work should be fair, creative, and shared — and because in a world where AI is changing how we work, cooperative models feel more resilient and human-centered.
Our first project is Lite Invoice, a simple invoicing app for freelancers and small businesses. It's designed to be fast, easy, and honest — no hidden fees, no manipulative upsells. 2026 will be the year we take this seriously, launch properly, and start building something sustainable together.
This blog is where we'll share the journey — the wins, the mistakes, the lessons, and the weird in-between moments that happen when four people try to build something ethical in a fast-moving space. If you're curious about coops, indie apps, or just how ethical product development can work in the real world, you're in the right place.
We're excited to share what we learn, and we hope you stick around for the ride.

About AI & writing
P.S. Sharing progress might be interesting to some folks, so we're going to try it out. We'll see how it goes throughout the year and if it's worth keeping. It's a loaded topic given all the hustle culture bullshit out there, so the whole thing probably deserves its own post — but for now, let's see how it goes.
P.P.S. "Sustainability" here means we can afford to pay ourselves more than a living wage and work on this full-time if we wanted to. We're not sharing MRR because money isn't the end goal — gainful employment for worker members is.
